I recently found a current event that is related to the war on terrorism. Yesterday, which was 4/27/17, a Westminster attack was foiled after a terror suspect's family tipped off police. According to the police, the 27-year-old man was reportedly carrying multiple knives and was most likely planning to carry out a terror attack. Luckily, he was stopped about 300 yards away from the residence of the Prime Minister. Police say he was a lone-wolf attacker. If the suspect's family hadn't reported the suspicious activity of the suspect to the police, he would have most likely tried to carry out a fatal terror attack on the Prime Minister and/or people around the area. This helped my social issue because a terror attack was stopped.

Organizations that Support my Social Issue
As previously mentioned, my social issue is the war on terrorism. For today's blog, I was assigned the task of finding organizations that support or help my social issue. I found three organizations who have goals to counter terrorism, and hopefully they will be helpful to me for my research paper. The first organization is called the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force. This organization adopted the Global Counter-Terrorism strategy on September 8, 2006. According to the UN, this strategy is "a unique global instrument to enhance national, regional and international efforts to counter terrorism". The second organization that I have chosen is the National Counterterrorism Center. This organization is focused on the U.S., and its main goal is to "Lead our [U.S.A] nation's effort to combat terrorism at home and abroad by analyzing the threat, sharing that information with our partners, and integrating all instruments of national power to ensure unity of effort". The third organization is called the OSCE or Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe. In their website under the heading Who We Are, the OSCE says this: "The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. It therefore addresses a wide range of security-related concerns, including arms control, confidence and security-building measures, human rights, national minorities, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism and economic and environmental activities. All 57 participating States enjoy equal status, and decisions are taken by consensus on a politically, but not legally blinding basis."
Why I Chose This Issue
My social issue is the war on terrorism. I think that this issue is important to write about because it is something that concerns many people around the world today. Terrorists have a large impact on our lives because they sometimes seem to control how people feel. When they attack, everyone becomes scared. I chose this topic because I think that it is important for me to start understanding what is going on in the world today and why the leaders of the world choose to fight terrorism the way that they do. Also, this is on a world scale. In this informative paper, I would like to research different terrorist groups and the effects that they have on peoples' way of life.
